In Fine Wine We Trust: Saturnalia Scores are deemed a reliable source by Liv-ex

"So that wine businesses can make better-informed trading decisions on Liv-ex, we include selected scores on our platform, only from sources that meet our strict selection criteria".

Justin Gibbs, co-founder of Liv-ex

Today we toast with all the Saturnalia team and with those who supported our project, as we have just reached a new, important milestone of our journey, one that makes us really proud: Saturnalia scores are now available on Liv-ex.

We do know that every great story is made of small steps, fuelled by complete dedication to goals and also a touch of self-irony when dealing with mistakes. This is why we would like to tell you more about the journey we have embarked on.

Saturnalia: a nameless start-up makes itself known in the fine wine world

We were an unknown and young Italian start-up called Ticinum Aerospace when we took the initiative to knock at Liv-ex door and present our new project, Saturnalia. We wanted to show to collectors, merchants and investors how satellite and artificial intelligence could disclose from a whole new perspective, a space-based one, the Olympus of fine wines: Bordeaux

By the beginning of 2019 we came up with the idea of having a unique and reliable source which would allow to know the market trends for Bordeaux wines. The idea was meant to go along with another Saturnalia unique tool, focused on the tracking, elaboration and prediction of data concerning the grape quality trend of the single Crus. In little time we realised that Liv-ex was best suited to supply us all the commercial information we needed.

Saturnalia develops the Monthly Price Trend for Bordeaux vintages

In May 2019, shortly after we published our first Saturnalia Scores for a pool of Bordeaux wines, the first meeting with Neil Taylor took place. At the time he was Director of Data and Web Services for Liv-ex, and he showed great interest in Saturnalia, providing us both with precious advice and data to turn our ground-breaking, although rough idea, into reality. Therefore, after reaching an agreement and with new extensive data at our disposal, we got down to business. After many attempts and calculations, we finally developed an algorithm that could track the economic value of the most renowned Bordeaux labels, cleared of market fluctuations and capable of reflecting the intrinsic features of the vintage.

This is how our Monthly Price trend was born, which is available today to all of our platform subscribers. The Monthly Price Trend allows to gather predictions for the current month of the expected value trend for the Bordeaux vintages already available on the market.

Justin Gibbs talks about the valuable addition of Saturnalia scores to Liv-ex

As Saturnalia gradually grew stronger, we found in Liv-ex not only a data supplier, but also an inspiring team made of people in love with what they do and committed to drive innovation in the fine wine market.

Over the years we developed a mutual trust and we were delighted to hear what Justin Gibbs, co-founder of Liv-ex, commented on the addiction of Saturnalia scores on the platform: “So that wine businesses can make better-informed trading decisions on Liv-ex, we include selected scores on our platform, only from sources that meet our strict selection criteria”.

The addition of our scores on Liv-ex allows their members to benefit from objective and science-driven information about the expected grape quality of vintages for each label.
